The traditional Tet festival plays a very important role in the Vietnamese spiritual life. To welcome the year 2009, Year of the Buffalo, the 2nd sign of the Chinese zodiac, on the first of December 2008, Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) issues the stampset: "Year of the Buffalo" consisting of 02 values and 01 block of these two values with their denominations of 2,000d; 9,000d and 11,000d. - Value 2-1: featuring the strong male- buffalo to symbolize the support of every family, denomination of 2,000d. - Value 2-2: featuring the female- buffalo with her buffalo calf to symbolize the growth and prosperity of spring, denomination of 9,000d. - Block (11,000d): Background of block is the image of a buffalo family who are fully enjoying spring festival to welcome a new year of happiness and prosperity. This is the 5th stampset of the second series to welcome the Lunar New Year of Vietnam Post, starting from the Year of Cock - 1993.
