Being 46 km Southwest of Thanh Hoa City, Ben En botanical garden is located in Hai Van Commune, Nhu Thanh District, Thanh Hoa Province. The garden is founded as people built Muc River dam in 1986.

Ben En botanical garden covers an area of 16,634 hectares included forest, mountain, rivers, and lakes with a rich, and diversified fauna and flora system. The garden has responsibilities as follows: preserving precious, and rare animal species, serving for scientific researches, experimental researches, and preservation of gene source, propagandizing, and educating consciousness of environment, and nature protection, and developing tourism.

The garden possesses many precious and rare animal species such as elephant, bear, Common Slow Loris, Clouded Leopard, Asian Wild Dog, White-cheeked Gibbon, and so on. Besides, Ben En botanical garden also covers an area of 4,000 hectares of surface water with 21 small and big islets. That all create very attractive natural landscape that is suitable to development of many types of ecological tourism.

To propagandize, and contribute in improving protection consciousness of precious, and rare animal species that are currently lived in the garden, on 1st July 2006, the Ministry of Post and Telematics (MPT) issues the stampset “Animals in Ben En national botanical garden” consisting of 4 values, and 1 block.

- Value 4-1 (3405): Common Slow Loris (Nycticebus bengalensis) with its denomination of 800d

- Value 4-2 (3406): Clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa) with its denomination of 1,000d

- Value 4-3 (3407): Asian Wild Dog (Cuon alpinus) with its denomination of 7,000d

- Value 4-4 (3408): White-cheeked Gibbon (Nomascus leucogenys) with its denomination of 10,000d

- Block (952B - block 153): Physignathus cocincinus (Animals of Ben En botanical garden) with its denomination of 12,000d

The stamps are featured in lively & realistic style, introducing 05 rare and endangered species in their natural environment. These are 05 characteristic animals of Ben En botanical garden.
