He was born on August 10th, 1870 in Vi Xuyen Village, My Loc District, Nam Dinh Province. He was very intelligent and keen on satire. However, he didn’t have good luck with the exams. Being not succeeded in competition-examinations 8 times created a profound imprint in his mind. It’s possible to say that exams fail, and poverty were his abundant subjects. Being born, and grown up in feudal and colonial regime, his works honestly and vividly described that transitional picture of society, representing his state of mind. It was considered as an indictment to accuse of the colonial and feudal society in the late half of the 19th century.

On the 20th January 2007, Ministry of Posts & Telematics (MPT) issues the stampset: “Death centenary of Tran Te Xuong (1870 - 1907)”, 01 value of 1,000d (3417).

The stamp features a portrait of the Poet against the image of his humble and hard - working wife, who had quite an effect on his poetic works.
